Jayne and Chris's Wedding 2011

A great Day was had by one and all.

Weddings are forever more exceptional if they include a relative of the direct family or personal friend, and especially if you are going to be directly involved in the preparations for that big day.

Being with Jayne to choose her wedding gown constituted a really emotive moment in time. Jayne appeared as a complete vision of beauty in her stylish lace wedding gown, and the grin on her face was all that was needed to tell us that she'd found the one and only wedding dress for her !

Picking out the bridesmaids and the maid of hounour dresses was just as emotive when we discovered the exact matches to the wedding gown, which featured vintage lace and were very pretty dresses, which would suit the three girls.

Everything was quickly put in place for the magic occasion. On the day, the church which had been booked previously looked very impressive, adorned with hydrangeas, candles and hearts. Chris, the bridgroom, looked dashing and extremely calm whilst we all eagerly awaited the arrival of Jayne, the beautiful bride.

Jayne looked sensational and the bridesmaids following along complimented her beautifully. The service itself was resplendant and full of passion and love, and emodied the best of heartfelt wishes towards the newlyweds.

Everyone was looking forward to the reception party, We all arrived at the beautiful Low Wood Hotel for a much needed refreshments at a brief initial reception in the gardens overlooking Lake Windermere in the Lake District. The weather actually behaved itself on the day and the sun shone on us all, which was a blessing in itself.

Everyone at the reception enjoyed a scrumptious three course wedding breakfast, followed by homemade chocolate and candy fudge wedding favours. The making of these personalised candy wedding favours was to be the initial spark of inspiration for Candystripe Favours just a few short months later.

After the wedding Breakfast reception, which took us all a while to recover from because of our over indulgence of the meal and the candy wedding treats. To help with the recovery we decided to take a cruise on the Lake Widermere steamer which was just the ticket, allowing us time to relax and recover. Veiwing the fells, resplendant in all their glory, in the sunshine, was an amazing sight and will be well remembered as an itegral part of the wedding day. It was a great chance to relax, socialise with friends and relatives, and take in the glory of the day.

After such a gorgeous day, all of the wedding party and close friends of both families were then treated to an evening wedding reception, which included lots of dancing, convivial drinking, socialising, and a chance to renew old friendships, make new friends, and have some great fun at the same time. It was truly a joy to see the whole extended family and friends enjoying themselves and coming together as a group to celebrate Jayne and Chris' marriage.

We all wish Jayne and Chris a long, happy, healthy, prosperous and fulfilling life together.

Hello Tullia,

I would like to thank you for the service I received (and still receiving) when I recently underwent my Gastric Band operation on 1st July 2011.

I cannot praise highly enough the people involved. Tullia, who helped make the decision to have the op and with the answer to any question. Chris Duprez for his easy going manner, his 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude and Doctor Philip and his team. Outstanding. Even Sam the taxi driver was nice.

From the time my daughter and I were picked up from Brussels Midi station and taken to the hotel, meeting Chris who explained exactly what was to happen the next day, to meeting Doctor Philip and having the op was such a pleasant, relaxing experience I didn't feel as if I was to have an operation.

The aftercare by the staff at the hospital was very good, you easily could imagine that you were the only patient they had. The hospital room itself was very clean and tidy.

Whilst my daughter was supposed to have the Gastric Band operation after me. Doctor Philip decided he could not go ahead with it as he discovered a pre existing liver condition which was unknown to us.

He therefore ended up doing an emergency op on the liver (with another surgeon)

My daughter had to spend time in the intensive care unit. Doctor Philip not only kept me informed personally what was going on but he took me to see my daughter several times so I could see for myself that she was ok. I cannot thank Doctor Philip and his team enough for this as who knows what could have happened if the liver had started to bleed when my daughter was anywhere else other than on the operating table and it could have happened at anytime.

Chris also visited and was willing to change all our travel and hotel arrangements should it have been needed, we were not made to rush our decision and could have stayed in hospital longer if need be.

I really do recommend this team if you are thinking of having a Gastric Band. I feel great and on my way to losing weight and saved money into the bargain. What more can I say go for it its the best decision you will ever make.

It struck me that I tend to be gullible and that I possibly threw away hard-earned and needed money on a clever scam.

My trepidation continued until my final arrival in Belgium towards the end of March.

I was very pleasantly surprised indeed!!

From the first Tullia had been very understanding about my concerns and called me personally on numerous occassions to touch base-something a fraudster would certainly NOT do after the money was already in their bank account!!

The taxi-drivers went out of their way to accomodate me as did everyone upon my arrival. The hotel was clean, modern and sympathetic and the hospital was state of the art.

I am safely back home and am exceedingly grateful for the high level of care before, during and even now in terms of the follow-up care.

My name is Kim and my starting weight prior to getting my Gastric Band fitted was 22.5 stone.

I made the decision after some internet research to go with the French Cosmetic Surgery group (Lazer Clinics (France Ltd). Although the cost was very attractive I was still very anxious going abroad for such a procedure.

After making contact with Tullia Law I was given the name of the surgeon and was able to check on his registration with the British Medical Board, I was also given dozens of names of people all over the United Kingdom and Ireland who had been through the procedure and I was able to contact them to discuss my concerns and ask questions.

Tullia provided me with information with regards to the pre arrangements i.e. travel, hotels, hospital and cost, every thing was easy to read and in English.

However, the big hurdle for me once I decided to go ahead was the money as I was to forward my money ahead of the surgery. I contacted a number of people to discuss this and they reassured me that it was fine and they had initially had the same anxieties. In the end I had to make a personal decision 'is it worth the risk?' I took the plunge and decided to go for it.

I was once again provided with straight forward English instructions and talked through the process with Tullia, once the money was transferred it was a matter of waiting on myhospital appointment. I was given details of dates and times etc. for my stay at the hospital. Once I arrived as directed, everything was very professional, straight forward and all completed in English.

I have no complaints about the quality of the hospital, doctors, the care I received or the process, in fact it was all to a very high standard. On leaving the hospital I was provided with comprehensive written information in English.

My only regret is I wish I had done it years ago as my weight at present is now 11.5 stone and I feel the best I have done in 20 years.

Julien Hug of Reality TV Show The Bachelorette Found Dead !

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- The father of a contestant on "The Bachelorette" reality television show says his son's body has been found off a scenic Southern California highway.

San Diego's KGTV says 35-year-old Julien Hug's father Bertrand Hug confirmed his son's body was found Wednesday.

But Riverside County sheriff's and coroner's investigators won't confirm the identity or whether they suspect foul play. An autopsy is scheduled Thursday.

Sheriff's Sgt. Joe Borja says a body was found at 11 a.m. in the remote Pinyon Pines area off State Route 74. The Pines-to-Palms Highway links Palm Desert and Hemet some 90 miles southeast of Los Angeles in Riverside County.

Julien Hug, who was bachelor contestant on the ABC reality show in May 2009, is the son of San Diego restaurateurs Bertrand and Denise Hug.

Is obesity surgery right for everyone?

Not everyone is suitable for gastric band surgery. This can only be determined after a complete evaluation and consultation between the specialist and patient. Obesity surgery is a life-changing procedure. It is therefore imperative that patients are committed to making the changes needed for a successful outcome.

A final consultation should always occur between you and your surgeon before the day of surgery. At this time you should be prepared to ask your doctor to provide you with full information related to the benefits, the risks, alternative surgical techniques, and any other question you yourself are not sure about.

It is recommended that you ask your consultant if it is possible for you to talk to other patients who have had gastric band surgery with your surgeon in the past. This ensures that you have the opportunity to decide if this is the right Hospital or Surgeon for you. These previous patients will generally give you their own unbiased opinion of the Surgeon, Hospital and aftercare.

What are the risks of obesity surgery?

As with all surgical procedures they do come with the possibility of complications, fortunately the incidence of complications with gastric band surgery is quite small. One must bear in mind however that there is always a slight risk of death from complications during surgery but this is extremely rare.

The post-operative health risks of restrictive gastric band surgery include:

Slippage of the band -This and other minor problems can be corrected quite easily if an early diagnosis is made.
Food intolerances - In a few cases, food intolerances or in extremely rare cases, perforation of the stomach, may lead to the need for the band to be removed.
Internal bleeding and blood clots –This risk is generally accepted as being less than 1%. The most common occurrence being in the legs following surgery, however as this is a known risk all surgeons will give you advice prior to leaving the hospital of what to watch for.
Infections -There is a small risk of infection in the incision area if the procedure is done by open surgery where the laparoscope is not used.
Pulmonary problems
Heart attack
Vomiting -The vomiting may develop when the small stomach pouch is stretched by food particles that have not been chewed well.
Hernia - abdominal hernia may occur. This can be caused by vomiting or straining following surgery and before the incision heals where open surgery has been performed. Laparoscopy-assisted surgery greatly reduces hernia risk.

What are the comparative risks of surgery against the risks of obesity?

Most patients suffering from morbid obesity must ask themselves and their surgeon this question. Do the benefits of obesity surgery outweigh the risks? Severe obesity is a generally accepted as being a progressive, chronic, life threatening disease. There is therefore no doubt that the known health risks associated with morbid obesity far outweigh the risks associated with surgery.

How much weight will I lose? And will the weight loss be quick?

The answer this question can depend on which type of obesity surgery you have. Patients who have adjustable gastric banding procedures usually lose weight more slowly the first year than those who have a gastric bypass, but total weight loss is comparable with both procedures in the long term

You will lose excess weight during the first year after your operation. But it will most certainly require you to change your eating and exercise patterns to ensure that the weight stays off. Gastric band surgery in itself is a major lifestyle change. This therefore requires that you follow the recommendations given to you following the surgery. If for any reason you do not follow these recommendations then you may start to regain weight again and any benefits gained will be lost over time.

How long will I have to stay in the hospital after surgery?

This will depend on the type of obesity surgery you have. Generally, hospital stays are between one and three days.

What if I have excess skin?

As you start losing weight, you may notice excess skin. The amount of excess skin you have depend upon your weight loss, your age and smoking habits. However, our hospitals are able to offer a complete range of body contouring and cosmetic surgery procedures to help correct the problems associated with dramatic weight loss.

How long will I be off work after obesity surgery?

This depends on the type of weight loss surgery you have. Following gastric banding surgery, you can return to work in about one week. On average, the gastric bypass procedure requires two to four week recuperation after the surgery.

Can I become pregnant after obesity surgery?

Will I have to take vitamins?

The gastric bypass procedure requires a lifetime of vitamin supplementation - usually three supplements daily. A gastric band requires a multivitamin every day.

Should I exercise after obesity surgery?

For maintaining your weight loss, regular exercise is extremely important. Your Surgeon or Consultant will be able to offer advice as a part of your personal recommendations for future weight loss management

What about dietary changes after obesity surgery?

Set aside three meals a day when you only eat solid foods. This will help you eat nutritious meals rather than endless snacking. Endless snaking is in many cases the problem that brought you here in the first place so be aware that a regular meal pattern is far better for you.

Eat slowly and chew foods until they are mushy. Also:

Allow 30 - 60 minutes for each meal
Aim for 30 chews for each bite.
Explain to people why you must eat slowly
Take small bites. To make it easier to chew, cut food into small sizes of as small as a bean, this aids the digestive system to work more efficiently
Sit down at a table where and avoid crouching over your food as is common when sitting in a lounge or quite often during “TV Meal”.

Stop eating as soon as you feel full. If you eat too much you will start to feel sick. Because the amount of space in your stomach is reduced, do not eat and drink at the same time. When you get the feeling of fullness, stop eating, even if you have not finished your meal. Over eating is one of the things that caused the problem in the first place.

What happens if I don't follow the diet?

Obesity surgery is successful in over 80% of cases. The main reason it fails the other 20% is because patients do not follow the post-surgery diet and exercise recommendations given to them following surgery.
